Structural Engineer (High-End Residential) - Design-Technology Studio (Remote)

We’re partnering with a rapidly scaling design-technology studio that is reinventing how residential and light commercial projects move from concept to permit.

They combine deep technical expertise with a streamlined, tech-forward process—using intelligent workflows, automation, and internal tools to drive unprecedented speed. The studio is scaling rapidly and is hiring a Structural Engineer who wants more than a conventional engineering position.

If you’re a licensed structural engineer with high-end residential experience and who gets energized by building the internal systems and tooling that make design teams faster and smarter, this is the rare role where you can do both—and see your impact immediately.

About the Role

This is a hybrid role where you'll spend:

• 40% of your time doing the structural work you know best

Designing residential structures, coordinating with architects, pushing projects through permitting, and ensuring code-aligned solutions.

• 60% of your time helping build the internal tools that accelerate the entire design and permitting pipeline.

This could include:

  • Developing code-analysis prompts and internal decision models.

  • Improving drafting/engineering standards and workflows.

  • Contributing to lightweight AI-driven tools that support design, QA, and client service.

  • Identifying operational bottlenecks and designing “accelerants” that unlock scale.

Location: United States (Remote-first, with occasional site visits across the US)
Type: Full-time, salaried
Compensation: $120,000–$160,000 + benefits
Licensure: PE required, SE strongly preferred (CA License preferred)

What You’ll Be Doing

Direct Project Work (~40%)

  • Design and engineer residential and light commercial projects, with an emphasis on high-end single-family homes.

  • Collaborate directly with architects, internal design staff, and outside consultants.

  • Prepare, review, and refine structural documentation for permitting.

  • Stamp drawings in jurisdictions where you hold licensure or help vet and onboard local partners.

  • Provide quick, thoughtful engineering insights in real-time discussions.

Internal Tools, Standards & AI-Driven Workflows (~60%)

  • Help build internal tools that streamline design, drafting, and QA.

  • Develop scalable code-interpretation models, decision trees, and engineering accelerators.

  • Elevate the firm’s technical standards—Revit/SketchUp templates, structural libraries, coordination workflows, etc.

  • Work with leadership to identify opportunities for efficiency, consistency, and tech-enabled speed.

  • Pilot new technologies, evaluate new processes, and help shape the future of the studio’s operations.

This isn’t a back-of-house standards role—you’ll see the immediate impact of everything you build.

Who You Are

  • Licensed PE Required, SE license desired (California preferred, or able to obtain).

  • 5+ years of experience, with at least 2+ years in high-end residential structural engineering (typical projects in the $2M–$20M range).

  • Deep knowledge of building codes, design standards, and permitting requirements.

  • Comfortable working autonomously and owning a project from start to finish.

  • Strong communicator—clear, fast, and collaborative.

  • Energized by startups: ambiguity doesn’t scare you; it motivates you.

  • Comfortable experimenting with new tools and workflows; no formal AI experience required, just curiosity and drive.

  • Excited to join a small team with massive growth ahead—your fingerprints will be all over the company’s engineering and operations foundation.

Why This Role Is Different…

  • Direct impact: You’re joining at a defining growth moment, with a major client projecting 100+ projects in the next year.

  • Two career tracks, one job: Keep your engineering craft sharp while also helping build the internal technology that will shape the company’s long-term operating model.

  • Startup speed without startup chaos: Clear business model, strong revenue, backed by investors who prioritize smart unit economics.

  • Real growth runway: Early hires will directly shape design standards and team culture.

  • Remote-first flexibility: Work from anywhere, with focused visits to project sites as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $120,000–$160,000 (Depending on experience and location)

  • Benefits: Health, dental, vision

  • Schedule: Full-time, flexible, remote-first

  • Future incentives: Profit-sharing possibilities as the company matures.
