• Out of Architecture offers support in 3 main ways: 1-on-1 career consulting, salary negotiation, and DIY resources like our Patreon.

  • We offer the experience, resources, and compassion of designers that have been where you are and found a new path. We can help you find a fulfilling career trajectory whether you’re a recent grad, a Principal, or firm Owner. We’ve worked with big-name firms, managed hiring, started businesses, taught students, and from there designed the careers we wanted for ourselves. We offer a variety of services to help you do the same, from portfolio reviews, individualized job hunts, interview prep, and more.

  • We approach each client as an individual, tailoring our process to your goals, skills, and personality. We start off with an intro call where we can get to know you and discuss your career interests.

Afterwards, we recommend some individualized services based on where you are in your search - these could include discussing alternate career pathways, an application material review, helping you make connections in a new or current field, or getting you started on your own research.

You can choose any of our services and resources that you’re interested in, whenever you are ready for them. There’s no commitment or set path - we’re designing your career path alongside you, at your pace.

  • Everyone starts with an intro call and intake questionnaire, but we do review client profiles in advance in case your needs fall outside our scope. From there, we can recommend your next steps and provide support where you need it.

  • You are capable of making positive change for yourself. Our job as coaches is often to help you discover and pick the right direction to move towards.

If you have a path in mind, we offer focused advice and a way of accelerating and gaining traction in your search. We find that clients who come to us take away a focused, positive outlook on their search that can reduce their search time by months. We also have the experience of working with hundreds of clients and having seen a wide variety of solutions to the same problems you might be facing.

  • If you are interested in pursuing one-on-one coaching, we encourage you to book our Onboarding Package.

This process focuses on you, your career aspirations, your goals and preparing you to be set up for a successful search. It may include ideation and direction planning, open role sourcing, narrative work, interview prep, follow up, negotiation tactics, and more.

In terms of direct support, we spend our time on the calls in often two phases. Phase one, the strategy phase, is all about unpacking your goals, your experiences thus far, what your needs and wants are with regards to your career, how that aligns with your life, etc. We try to pull out a series of hierarchies, answer some questions and narrow down a few pathways, or tracks, to explore that may make sense.

From there, we move into the tactical phase, which is all about actually finding roles, teams, companies and people that would be worth speaking to and opportunities worth applying for. We work with you to show our search and outreach techniques, make connections to people we think may be useful to speak to (if our network applies), and help you identify others as well. We occasionally reach out on our clients behalf, but also simply help with messaging to empower you to expand your network as well. We track all of this in a role tracker (a spreadsheet).

It is important to understand that this is an endeavor that is led by you, and something that you can do on your own.

It is your search, and we serve as a sounding board, a coach and a confidant throughout the process, and color it with our experiences with other clients, people in the OOA community, and our own experiences. We act as counsel in helping you to prepare your narrative, drawing that red thread through your career and pitching yourself, vetting potential opportunities and discussing their merits, your interest, and the day-to-day.

In terms of assurances, we are not recruiters and cannot guarantee placement or make any commitments to success. Everyone's definition of success in their career is different, and often may be redefined throughout the process. It is impossible to know at the outset what the best outcome could be, but we do commit to working with you and supporting you throughout the process.

  • We've helped clients negotiate offers, go from full-time to freelance, find roles around the world, tell their story in a more meaningful way, gain confidence, build a startup, ace their next interview, start down a new career, and generally find a better balance than what they had previously. We are always honest when we feel we cannot perform a service so ask us and find out!

  • Several services we offer can get you ready for your job search before or after graduation. We offer portfolio reviews, resume reviews, job interview prep, and other support. We also offer special rates for students and encourage students to look into our group sessions tailored towards emerging professionals. View schedule openings here.

  • We have many clients who come from other areas of design (including industrial, interiors, automotive, urban planning, and landscape design). There are many parallels in the search methods and techniques we use. We specialize in clients with a background in architecture, design, technology and entrepreneurship and feel that clients with that profile receive the most benefit from our services.
