Description
The primary function of the Director of Virtual Design Construction assumes the overall vision responsibility of working with the leadership team to drive VDC technology utilization companywide. The Director of Virtual Design Construction will be instrumental in advancing the company’s BIM technologies, keeping the company on the cutting edge of constant improvement, creating content and training curriculum, managing multiple direct / indirect reports, and being visible within the industry. The Director of Virtual Design Construction will lead a department and push WEO’s VDC capabilities as part of our brand with our clients, Architectural firms, consultants, etc. You will be the liaison between the company stakeholders and the staff to clearly communicate the company’s VDC vision and how VDC tools will be executed in the field.

Key Responsibilities
The duties, responsibilities and attributes of the Director of Virtual Design Construction typically include, but are not limited to:
Technical Skills
Work closely with the Estimator, Senior Estimator, Chief Estimator, Vice President of Estimating, Project Manager and Project Executive during the estimating and preconstruction phases
Ensure 3D take-offs are being utilized & accurate as well as providing feedback to the Owner & Design Team on the LOD state of the model at each stage in the estimating process.
Support VDC implementation opportunities with marketing and preconstruction departments
Participate in project pursuits through supporting graphics, visuals, and interviews. Able to present the companies VDC capabilities directly in front of clients.
Integrate Google Earth, drones usage, and Laser Scanning into pursuit and preconstruction deliverables
Experience with 3D rendering software (Revit, Vico, Tekla, Sketchup, & others) and integration with 4D schedule/animation for project proposals
Understand and support methods for animating equipment and materials to provide detailed renderings.
Direct experience in subcontractor modeling methods and software. Able to support subcontractors with 3D modeling efforts to help ensure mutual success.
Work with scheduling software and integration with VDC; familiar with Critical Path Method & Cost Loaded models and schedules.
Maintain and improve department’s means and methods to ensure quality product delivery; maintain Revit library
Participation in company QA/QC program through coordinated models and support in construction phase. Provide training to the field on how VDC can assist the QA/QC program at the jobsites.
Understanding of construction terminology, trades, plans, specifications, and project types
Understands the differences between various delivery methods, i.e. budgets, competitive bids and negotiated projects and provide recommendations on the level of VDC services that can be provided with each delivery method.
Advises when Owner's VDC / BIM requirements exceed WEO standard requirements.
Understands basics of WEO standard Master Subcontract Agreement “MSA” and how it pertains to a Subcontractor's obligation to VDC department
Work closely with offshore resources. This may include developing project scope, responsibilities matrix, and training the offshore staff as needed.
Update, develop and implement training programs for all company staff on BIM process and software

Qualifications
Four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience in a related field or 10-years+ minimum of relevant professional experience.
Broad understanding of construction administration processes, including the various BIM design platforms, model management, and trade coordination
Knowledge of Design-Bid-Build, Design Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and other modern contractual delivery methods
Proven successful implementations of VDC platform technologies
Understands project workflows from design, estimating, preconstruction, construction administration and coordination
Understands And Effectively Uses Company Software Programs And Systems
Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel) and can adequately use PowerPoint
Proficiency in Outlook and has the ability to manage calendars, address books, tasks and email
Proficiency in collaboration and virtual conferencing programs such as MS Teams
Ability to navigate and manage files and folders in cloud based platforms, such as Box.com and Dropbox

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in one of WEO’s California regional offices and on occasion may be required to visit the construction work site where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
