Experience: TBD

Compensation: TBD

Job Summary

The University of MichiganTaubman College of Architecture and Urban Planningseeks practice-track faculty at any rank to develop field-defining creative practice and teaching in urban technology and design in ourBachelor of Science in Urban Technologyprogram. You have expertise in design, technology development, and urban and geospatial analytics. You will join a dynamic cohort of faculty in the Urban and Regional Planning Program which also includes the Master of Urban and Regional Planning and Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning programs.

The primary teaching for this position will be within the core curriculum of the B.S. in Urban Technology program, which includes three sequences of required coursework in cities, technology, and design. We especially seek applicants qualified to teach within the required design sequence, which integrates methodologies from multiple design traditions including visual communication, data visualization, interaction design, service design, strategic design, and the design and analysis of urban systems. You may also teach new electives that contribute to overall program goals. Practice-track faculty at Taubman College typically have a 50% appointment, corresponding to one course in the fall and winter semesters, and teaching will occur in person in Ann Arbor.

Professors of practicewill be expected to teach as contracted; participate in service to the program, college, and/or university (i.e. serving on committees or task forces, participating in admissions processes, participating in reviews of student work, and similar activities); and maintain an ongoing engagement with relevant professional work. Although professional practice is diverse, it is almost always conducted for pay for a company or client, and is shared with a broader community of practice through practice outputs or broader dissemination which shares aspects of the practice work. Excellence in professional practice is documented through recognized impact such as the implementation, adoption, or realization of creative ideas (whether plans, designs, technologies, policies, etc.), awards and recognition by professional peers and the broader public.
