About the Role:

As Head of Design Development, you will lead our in-house Development function and oversee the design, development, and rollout of all Clean Market flagship and satellite stores. Reporting directly to executive leadership and sitting on our core leadership team, you’ll build and manage a high-performing design development team while partnering with cross-functional teams, vendors, architects, and general contractors to execute each project from idea to grand opening.

You will own the full design development process—from initial site vetting through to 50–100% DD (design development) and manage transitions to AORs (Architects of Record) based on local jurisdiction. You’ll also establish and maintain brand standards, value engineer design solutions, manage overflow design partners, and ensure all new locations reflect the Clean Market identity while achieving budget and schedule targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead the Clean Market Design Development team, ensuring accountability across all active and future store buildouts

  • Translate Clean Market’s brand identity into a physical environment through intentional, elevated architectural and interior design

  • Develop and maintain brand standards and design systems for scalability across multiple formats (flagship, satellite, wellness suite)

  • Lead the design development phase from concept through 50–100% completion, and manage hand-off to AORs when required

  • Vet and test-fit new site opportunities in collaboration with real estate and operations teams

  • Directly manage relationships with AORs, design consultants, overflow design partners, and general contractors

  • Oversee interior design, FF&E curation, and final styling for all locations

  • Conduct value engineering reviews in partnership with GC and vendors to optimize cost and quality

  • Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of all locations with a high standard of design excellence

  • Develop and manage existing store refresh and renovations.

  • Development timelines are met with minimal variance

  • Design solutions are scalable, cost-effective, and brand-aligned

  • The development function becomes a core pillar of Clean Market’s growth engine

Candidate Requirements:

  • 8+ years in architecture, design development, or real estate design leadership—retail, hospitality, or wellness sectors preferred

  • Proven experience rolling out branded environments at scale (e.g., national retail or wellness concept)

  • Strong design sensibility and ability to lead interior styling, FF&E, and brand expression

  • Licensed Architect in NYC, Florida, Illinois, California, or Texas is a strong plus

  • Exceptional project management and vendor management skills

  • Experience managing internal teams and external partners (AORs, GCs, consultants)

  • Passion for design excellence and the wellness space

Current Pipeline:

  • 4 Flagship Stores: NYC, Miami, Chicago, London

  • 5+ Satellite Locations: In top-tier hotel/resort properties

  • 12+ Locations: Inside exclusive fitness partner venues (Equinox Fitness)
