Job Title: Design Specialist

Department/Function: Development

Location: Remote

Reports to: Sr. Director of Design & Construction



General Description

The Design Specialist (DS) provides design support developing company shops and franchise shops in the coordination, planning and implementation of new shop design. They will support the Design Managers (DM), Construction Managers (CM) and other Cross-Functional Teams on shop design and additional shop needs keeping in mind brand standards, cost and schedule. This position will also support execution of facilities and refresh projects across the company’s existing portfolio.



FOCUS

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating new shop plans/test fits and lease exhibits following PSW design standards while coordinating with development, operations and franchisees for alignment and sign off.

  • Assist in design documentations needed for New Shop Openings (NSO): furniture plans, coordinating colored elevations for interior projects and selecting and placing Potbelly’s iconic interior wall décor and heritage items.

  • Assist in design documents needed for Refresh Shops: furniture and lighting plans, coordinating colored elevations for interior and exterior elevations and section/placement of wall décor.

  • Assist in review and coordination of design drawings from A&E Firms ensuring they follow PSW design standards.

  • Assist in coordination for smooth turnover of all new shops and remodel projects to the operations and training teams.

  • Providing construction administration support to CM and at time facilities for design related issues.

  • Maintain and coordinate updates for PSW Prototypical Drawings, Design Manual and Specifications with oversight from DM. Ensuring change management is communicated internally, and to vendors and franchisees. Collaborate with development team to evaluate and enhance brand and design standards

  • Creative ability to have vision for new and existing shops to create the ‘Neighborhood Sandwich Shop’ and design store to meet operational needs, maintaining flexibility as the brand standards evolve.

Essential Physical Functions

  • Must have the ability/stamina to work 45-50+ hours a week

  • Must be able to work in both warm and cool environments, indoors and outdoors

  • Must be able to engage in problem-solving skills to help identify and solve potential issues

  • Ability to stand/walk for 9-10 hours per day and sit for 1-2 hours per day

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

  • Will frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, finely manipulate, and key in data

Experience, Education And Behaviors

  • Proficient in Auto CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, knowledge of Revit and Bluebeam Revu a plus

  • Must be able to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management

  • Critical thinking and Problem-solving skills

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in interior design with restaurant design a plus

  • Must be coachable, driven, focused and confident

  • Must have experience performing in a highly competitive environment

  • Must strive for excellence and have only the highest integrity in their intentions

  • Experience with FranConnect, SmartSheet/PM, and all Microsoft products for collaboration and communication

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field (BA or BS in Interior Design or Architecture)
