Reports to: Director, Product Development – HOKA Innovation
Location: Portland, OR
The Role
A HOKA Innovator is versatile and can approach new situations and circumstances in original ways. A Senior Materials Developer in the HOKA Innovation team pushes the boundaries of upper materials, constructions and sustainability to generate innovation concepts that shape the future of HOKA footwear. A strong candidate for this role is an innovator, natural collaborator and textiles expert, proficient in working with innovation designers, Asia factories and vendors with proven experience of bringing new material partners into the footwear supply chain.

Your Impact
The primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:
Materials development and proof of concept
Define criteria and performance targets for material innovation
Sustainability Innovation
Scout and integrate new materials vendors
Who You Are
You are inquisitive and thrive in working with a diverse group of product experts of different backgrounds and natural inquisitive to connect with technologists and companies at the cutting edge of the sporting goods and adjacent industries. You are passionate about product creation and driven to generate solutions that the footwear industry has never seen before. You organize activities with a structured mindset to create actions from ambiguous starting points and clearly communicate actionable plans for your project teams. Most importantly you bring an entrepreneurial mindset with a positive attitude and a bias to make and learn.
We’d love to hear from people with
6+ years progressive experience in the footwear industry for a global company
A Materials Sciences, Mechanical Engineering or a technical science discipline
Experience leading advanced textile materials and processes innovation in footwear or a relevant adjacent industry
Experience leading projects with global development teams, including Asia factories and suppliers
Experience across the spectrum of product creation from early stage innovation to commercialization
Expert knowledge of upper material production and integration to the footwear supply chain
Proven track record of validating and integrating new materials or technologies into footwear concepts and toolboxes
Systematic approaches to prototyping creation and testing with the ability to optimize product features by designing sample matrixes and testing plans
Experience working effectively in complex global organizations, satisfying the needs of diverse constituents, and often working under the pressure of competing and sometimes conflicting priorities
Ability to train and develop team members based on individual talents, and support internal career path and development
Hands-on creative passions outside of the footwear industry
