Manager, Store Planning and Architecture - J.Crew (NYC, NY)

Our Story

We make modern classics with character. We believe in true timelessness, the integrity of well-made clothes, and since our inception, great quality at a great price. That’s in our DNA.

But, we know it’s not only about the clothes—it’s about the feeling it gives the people who wear them, whether they’re confidently giving a presentation in a well-tailored suit; basking in long salty beach days in vibrant, colorful sun-soaked swimsuits, or joyfully re-discovering their favorite Rollneck sweater in their closet again and again, season after season.

And ultimately, it’s about helping our customers be the best, most authentic versions of themselves.

And that’s what we’re after, to inspire people’s lives and style.

Our dedication to Diversity, Equity, Belonging & Sustainability has been celebrated with industry recognition, reflecting our commitment to fostering an inclusive and sustainable workplace.

Overview:

At J. Crew, we believe great style starts with great spaces. As Manager of Store Planning & Architecture, you’ll help bring our brand to life through environments that feel both classic and fresh—just like our collections. You’ll lead the charge on store layouts, guiding projects from concept to construction with a keen eye for detail, collaboration, and craftsmanship.

  • What You’ll Do:

  • Design with purpose. Lead the layout and planning of new stores, remodels, conversions, and smaller initiatives that stay true to the J.Crew Group look and feel.

  • Bring our spaces to life. Create store plans that are both operationally smart and visually inspiring in collaboration with cross-functional teams —where customers love to shop and teams love to work.

  • Be a brand ambassador. Review lease plans and mall redevelopments to ensure our real estate choices align with our design DNA and business needs.

  • Collaborate across the Business. Partner closely with Real Estate, Visual & Design, Allocations, Store Operations, IT, Loss Prevention, and field leadership to align on every detail.

  • Lead our external architects. Manage our architectural partners and ensure seamless coordination from prototype through permitting.

  • Track project timelines and ensure all approvals (landlord, local, state) are secured on time.

  • Review final construction documents to confirm accuracy and alignment with brand standards and negotiated lease responsibilities.

  • Manage architectural budgets, NTEs and change orders in line with service agreements.

  • Champion craftsmanship. Coordinate & approve effective fixture solutions, ensuring every build reflects our quality standards.

  • Shape what’s next. Contribute to prototype evolution, value engineering and layout innovation, drawing on lessons learned, code updates, and team feedback.

  • Get hands-on. Visit stores, attend site meetings, and ensure final construction documents are accurate, aligned, and brand-right.

  • Lead with detail and heart. Maintain prototype drawing sets and process manuals to support a cohesive project workflow

  • Stay curious. Bring a fresh eye to trends in retail architecture and design—and share new ideas with the Brand design leadership that help elevate the store experience.

  • What You Bring:

  • 7–10 years of architectural planning experience, preferably in specialty or fashion retail

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or a related field.

  • Strong spatial and visual planning instincts

  • A passion for detail, and the built environment

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting

  • Highly organized, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Exceptional communication, project management, and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Bluebeam, and the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator a plus)

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite

We welcome you to apply, even if you don't check all the boxes.
