OverviewMicrosoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering over 200 Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. Within CO+I, Datacenter Construction Delivery (DCD) is responsible for delivering datacenter capacity for Microsoft’s cloud business meeting all safety, quality, sustainability, schedule, and budget requirements. The Construction Metro Director provides critical leadership, ownership and accountability for the team's deployment and delivery of large-scale, campus and/or regionally based delivery solutions to predictably deliver Datacenter capacity. This role leads the delivery of highly complex, high-impact projects by driving strategic planning, resource alignment, and risk management to ensure predictable outcomes. It builds trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, acts as the voice of the customer, and oversees contracting, financial governance, and project closure. The position also contributes globally by sharing best practices and fostering industry impact. We are hiringmultiple candidatesfor this role across the following metro areas:

  • Charlotte, North Carolina

  • Columbus, Ohio

  • South Bend, Indiana

Relocation assistance will be provided. Candidates selected for this role are expected to relocate and live within50 milesof the designated work location. Responsibilities

  • Project & Financial Management: Owns end‑to‑end project scope, schedule, and budget while implementing strong project controls (PERs, PSRs, change orders, pay apps) to ensure cost, quality, and delivery discipline.

  • Strategic Delivery & Results: Drives execution of complex, large‑scale construction initiatives by influencing internal and external partners to meet milestones and uphold core priorities (Safety, Security, Quality, Schedule, Cost).

  • Cross‑Functional & Vendor Coordination: Leads coordination across vendors, architects, contractors, and internal stakeholders, integrating lessons learned and maintaining a security‑first mindset throughout planning and delivery.

  • Risk, Safety & Compliance Leadership: Establishes risk mitigation strategies, metrics, and dashboards; champions safe worksites; ensures compliance with regulatory, security, and audit requirements; and shares best practices and lessons learned.

  • Technical & Operational Excellence: Applies technical expertise and best practices to recommend innovative delivery solutions and ensures adherence to organizational standards, procedures, and security guidelines.

  • Resource & Vendor Management: Oversees vendor selection, RFPs, scopes of work, performance, and compliance while managing resource procurement, allocation, inventory, and cost efficiency.

  • People Leadership & Goal Alignment: Models inclusive leadership through coaching, accountability, and care; aligns teams and cross‑functional partners to corporate vision and project goals while developing talent and sustaining high performance.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 15+ years related experience

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 15+ years experience working on data center projects.

  • 10+ years project management experience.

  • 10+ years people management experience.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
