OpenAI Student Collective - ChatGPT (Remote)

Students have been among the first to find new ways AI can support learning, creativity, and problem-solving. As OpenAI builds more capable tools, we believe students will continue leading the way and bring others along with them.

The OpenAI Student Collective gives undergraduate Campus Leads the tools, training, funding, and support to help that energy grow on campus.

We’re looking for students excited to bring peers from every field together, help them gain confidence with OpenAI tools, and showcase what they create with a global community.

  • Opportunities for a HQ visit in June 2027 and other surprises along the way

  • How to apply

Applications are now open through August 10, 2026 at 11:59pm PT.

Students from every discipline are encouraged to apply. We’re looking for undergraduate students who are curious, community-minded, and excited to introduce others to AI.

    Qualifications

    • You love ChatGPT, Codex, and OpenAI tools.

    • You’re 18 years or older.

    • You’re enrolled in an undergraduate college or university program as of August 2026 and expect to graduate after December 2027.

    • You’re committed to 4–6 hours per week of participation from August 2026–June 2027.

    • You study in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Japan, or South Korea and have work authorization in your country of study. Studying elsewhere? You can register your interest by submitting an application, and we’ll let you know when the Collective becomes available in your country.

    • You’re not currently an ambassador or intern for any other AI programs or companies.

Can I apply if I haven’t used Codex or built with AI before?

Yes. You don’t need experience with Codex—or a portfolio of AI projects—to apply. We care more that you’re curious, eager to learn, and know how to bring people together. We’ll provide training and support to help you build confidence with new tools before introducing them on campus. Knowing what it feels like to be a beginner can also help you create a more welcoming experience for others who are just getting started.

What is the overall time commitment for a Campus Lead?

The program runs from onboarding in late August 2026 through June 2027, with campus programming beginning in September. Campus Leads should expect to spend an average of 4–6 hours per week hosting events, participating in training and check-ins, and supporting their campus community. Some weeks will be lighter, while workshops and showcases may require more time.

Will OpenAI provide workshop materials or do I need to create everything myself?

You won’t need to create everything from scratch. OpenAI will provide workshop guides, templates, training, and resources to help you plan and run sessions on your campus.

Every student community is different, so you’ll have room to adapt these materials and shape workshops around what your peers are most excited to learn or build.

How long will the workshops be?

Most workshops should last one to two hours, though the format may vary depending on the topic and audience. We’ll provide flexible workshop guides that you can adapt to what students on your campus want to learn or build.

Do I need to start an official club to become a Campus Lead?

No. You can apply and begin hosting events without establishing an official campus club. We’ll provide resources, programming ideas, funding, and support to help you bring students together from the start. If official recognition would make it easier to book rooms, reach students, or build credibility on your campus, we can also support you through that process.

How will I receive my stipend and when?

Campus Leads will be paid through our secure payment platform. We’ll share details during onboarding, including payment timing, payment method, and any required documentation.

Stipends will be paid at the end of each semester, after Campus Leads have participated in the program and completed the expected semester activities.
