Job Summary
The Senior Vice President of Architecture and Design is a leadership role at the Austin Transit Partnership (ATP), directly reporting to the Executive Vice President of Design & Construction. This role champions the principles of high-performance, people-centered design through all phases from design conceptualization through construction of the Austin Light Rail Project. The Senior Vice President will provide oversight of the development and implementation of the architectural identity of the Project, including responsibilities to oversee the preparation of design and construction documents. This position also includes responsibility for the public art, program, any third party certification of high-performance infrastructure and landscape architecture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Foster a culture of design excellence, ensuring project designs meet high standards of aesthetics, passenger experience and performance in accordance with the Project’s design goals
Lead the development of innovative design strategies for infrastructure and public space projects, balancing financial, constructability, maintainability and political considerations
Provide expert guidance to consultants and contractors on architectural and design principles throughout project development and construction phases
Facilitate design processes that incorporate community context, regulatory standards, and efficient land use, enhancing the aesthetics and utility of facilities
Represent ATP in interactions with public agencies, stakeholders, and the broader community
Oversee the integration of art and community engagement programs into project designs
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, or related field
Twelve years of progressively responsible experience in managing architecture projects, including leadership roles in design and construction
Seven years of supervisory experience
Registration as a Professional Architect or equivalent, with eligibility for licensure in Texas if registered elsewhere
OR An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics consistent with the required qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated expertise in design principles, construction methods, and the integration of high-performance building systems and infrastructure in transit projects
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, providing clear direction and fostering collaboration among stakeholders
Strong understanding of public transportation systems, including operational, maintenance, and passenger experience considerations
Advanced interpersonal skills for effective communication across diverse groups, including technical teams, government entities, and the public
Must be proficient in using business and communications software, preferably Microsoft Office 365 which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work is generally performed in an office environment, but occasionally requires attendance at public meetings, stakeholder meetings, and/or job sites. ATP promotes a safe and healthy work environment and provides appropriate safety and equipment training for all employees as required.
