Workplace Planning and Design Specialist - The D. E. Shaw Group (NYC, NY)
OVERVIEW:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks an experienced workplace planning and design specialist to join its Administration team. This role will facilitate the design, process, planning, and expansion of the firm’s office spaces. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a talented, growing team in a collegial working environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
Oversee various aspects of space planning and design management, ensure office standards are maintained, project manage operational improvements and expansions, and preserve accurate spatial data within our space management software.
Develop spatial layouts and collaborate with our Human Capital team on allocations, occupancy, and room usage.
Generate reporting and analyses on occupancy metrics and growth forecasts, coordinate building audits, and troubleshoot day-to-day space planning requests.
Work on internal design projects as well as support external design consultants on new office build outs.
Communicate with other teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure all information is incorporated into project requirements, and to provide support as necessary.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
At least eight to ten years of professional experience in design, space programming, space planning, facilities planning, and project management.
A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in architecture, planning, design, or another relevant field.
Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of architectural design, detailing, building materials, building codes (including ADA requirements), and construction techniques, as well as expertise in furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, specifications, and procurement.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to anticipate needs, work collaboratively, and build relationships across departments.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, CAFM systems, FM:Systems, Bluebeam, or Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
A strategic thinker with impressive organizational, multitasking, and planning skills will excel in this role.
The expected annual base salary for this position is $120,000 to $170,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
