Information Designer - Cognition (Hybrid in Seattle, WA)

We’re seeking a designer with a strong foundation in visual communication design and an interest in information design and data visualization to join our team. You will be responsible for the ongoing production of a large body of research figures in a specific domain. In addition, you will act as a resource for numerous data-driven design needs in the studio across scientific, health, and other related areas of communication. Salary budget for this role is $97,800/yr - $102,060/yr.

The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about the intersection of design, data, information, and visual communication and is comfortable working directly with technical subject matter experts. Additionally, the candidate must be familiar with design systems and be capable of creating design standards and identifying efficient workflow processes.

Capabilities

  • Adobe Creative Suite

  • Excel

  • User interface design software such as Sketch, Figma, Framer, etc.

  • D3, Processing and Chart.js is a bonus

  • Collaboration tools such as Miro, Mural, Whimsical, Plectica, etc.

 

Responsibilities

  • The design and production of visualizations and figures based on existing patterns and templates.

    1. Collaborate with technical subject matter experts to understand the goals and meaning of a proposed visual.

    2. Design unique visualizations to communicate information, datasets, processes, or concepts effectively.

    3. Oversee the production of numerous design requests; able to prioritize, to ensure delivery of quick and accurate deliverables; skilled in juggling multiple projects simultaneously.

    4. Create design patterns, standards, and workflows to guide the efficient production of work.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design, Graphic Design, or related area is required. 3+ years of professional experience, consultancy/creative agency strongly recommended. Biotech or health related communications experience preferred.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with clients, stakeholders (especially analysts), and cross-functional team members.

  • Ability to demonstrate and present knowledge of design principles around visual and information design.

  • Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator), as well as digital tools like Sketch and Figma.

  • Some experience with coding languages and libraries for data visualization preferred (eg. D3, Processing, chart.js). Should we say that it ‘is a bonus’ instead of ‘is preferred’?

  • Demonstrates strong detail orientation, process orientation, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate with diverse working styles and with team members across disciplines.

  • Initiative to work and learn independently; a team player able to work collaboratively.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is required. A combination of education and experience may substitute for a degree.
