Doblin, a Deloitte business, is seeking seasoned innovation managers to join our New York, Chicago, and Seattle studios who can confidently lead teams and clients to identify new opportunities, bring future products, services, and experiences to market, and help to grow our own business.

As a Design Manager, you will be the day-to-day lead for an integrated, multi-disciplinary team, guiding the direction of the work and serving as a liaison between Doblin and client stakeholders. Our Strategic Design Managers provide day-to-day leadership of our projects. They create a work environment that is as inspiring as it is productive, guiding our teams to deliver ambitious outcomes, while expanding our clients' perspectives and taking them through the innovation journey.

YOUR WORK AS A DOBLIN MANAGER

  • Own the end-to-end delivery of one project at a time , setting the agenda and approach for how your team works to solve our clients' most complex challenges

  • Lead the day-to-day client relationship : driving the work forward, facilitating workshops, and spurring a provocative dialogue about opportunities for impactful innovation

  • Articulate a vision for the work your team delivers , clarifying how each part fits together and sharpening content and messaging to meet client needs

  • Credibly and fluently represent our core disciplines to clients and other Deloitte colleagues and lead them through the work

  • Simplify complex problems to a level that everyone understands - then tell compelling stories to bolster our clients' ambition and galvanize them to action

  • Assign challenging work to team members and provide actionable feedback and career guidance

  • Provide ongoing performance coaching and mentorship for junior team members

  • Participate in business development activities by coordinating the development of proposals and opportunities to expand how we serve current clients

  • Lead prioritized internal initiatives to develop new offerings, new eminence, or evolve our methods and growing design community

What You Will Bring
Innovation management

  • Expertise in one or more of: design, research, or business design

  • Experience in leading teams of designers, researchers, business designers, and technologists

  • Disciplined project management skills with a structured and methodical approach that allows your teams to explore and define unknown spaces

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including workshop facilitation

  • Great attention to detail and ability to translate a big-picture view into clear guidance for clients as well as teams

  • Strong consulting skills, including ability to integrate new perspectives and market offerings into the work you lead

  • A capacity to work quickly and iteratively, including in Agile teams

Team and people leadership

  • Skill in building rapport and durable relationships with clients to become a trusted advisor

  • Empathy for our clients and our teams and the instinct to infuse this into how you lead teams and work with a variety of stakeholders

  • Interest in experimenting with new ways of improving experiences and working practices for our clients and our teams

  • Ability to provide feedback, support and mentorship to more junior team members across disciplines, including as part of formal performance management

Required Qualifications And Expectations

  • 6+ years at a design strategy consultancy or other professional services environment in an innovation/digital role

  • 2+ years experience as a client-facing advisor, specifically in a project management capacity

  • Willingness to be based in New York or Chicago

  • Travel up to 50 percent (While 50% of travel is a requirement of the role, due to COVID-19, non-essential travel has been suspended until further notice)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field (business, design, research)
