about us

a design education is your greatest asset

We didn't plan this. We thought that out of architecture school, we would go into the working world at big-name firms and never look back. Instead, we found that our skills made us invaluable in any number of roles. We could do everything we loved, and get paid really well.

Out of Architecture is a career consulting firm started by two Harvard-educated professionals interested in exploring the value of their skills both in and out of the architectural profession. Combined experiences at architecture firms including Studio Gang Architects, Massimiliano Fuksas Architetto, and Tod Williams + Billie Tsien Architects, we’ve experienced a multitude of office cultures and design positions.

Our backgrounds in design have taken us many places: material and technology innovation at Adidas, leading design thinking courses at several prestigious academic institutions from the United States to India, business development and design-strategy consulting for various technology start-ups and VC’s in New York City. Not to mention, we've built our fair share of award-winning buildings.

We’re here to help you maximize all of the expertise you have honed as a designer to get you a role that fulfills and challenges you. We have the knowledge, experience, and connections to help you put your best self into the market – and reap the benefits.

Erin Pellegrino is a Visiting Critic in Architecture at Cornell University.  As a professional, Erin has explored professional practice through a combination of collaborations, competitions, and design/build projects. Her personal practice, established in 2012 while still in in school, has focused on small-scale interventions and a process-driven design methodology at various scales. Through her work, she seeks to uncover, build upon, and create relationships through product, furniture and architectural design. She also consults with early technology and design start-up companies for tech accelerators in the New York City area.

Her work has been recognized with an AIA New England Design Honor Award in Special Projects, a Core 77 Design Award in Built Environment, two Architizer A+ Awards in Architecture and Collaboration, a Paul M. Heffernan International Travel Grant, and a nomination for the Mies Van der Rohe Award, EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture.

Before focusing solely on her own work, she spent time in the offices of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects and Studio Gang, honing a focus on craft, rigor, and quality design. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University, a Master of Architecture II from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and an MBA.
